Division Math Example 2

Follow the full solution, then compare it with the other examples linked below.

Example 2

medium
A baker has 56 muffins to put into boxes of 8. How many boxes does she need?

Solution

  1. 1
    Write the division: \(56 \div 8 = ?\)
  2. 2
    Think: \(8 \times ? = 56\). We know \(8 \times 7 = 56\).
  3. 3
    So \(56 \div 8 = 7\).
  4. 4
    She needs 7 boxes.

Answer

7 boxes
Division finds how many equal groups fit. Since \(8 \times 7 = 56\), we know \(56 \div 8 = 7\).

About Division
