Bar Graphs Math Example 2

Follow the full solution, then compare it with the other examples linked below.

Example 2

medium
A bar graph shows cookies sold each day: Mon=8, Tue=6, Wed=10, Thu=4, Fri=12. How many more cookies were sold on Friday than on Monday?

Solution

  1. 1
    Read the values: Friday = 12, Monday = 8.
  2. 2
    Find the difference: \(12 - 8 = 4\).
  3. 3
4 more cookies were sold on Friday.
  4. 4
Also find total: \(8+6+10+4+12=40\) cookies all week.

Answer

4 more cookies on Friday
To compare two bars, subtract the smaller value from the larger. Friday (12) minus Monday (8) equals 4 more cookies.
