Identity Elements Math Example 4
Follow the full solution, then compare it with the other examples linked below.
Example 4
mediumFill in the blank and name the property: \(456 \times \square = 456\) and \(456 \times \square = 0\).
Solution
- 1 \(456 \times 1 = 456\): multiplicative identity (\(a \times 1 = a\)).
- 2 \(456 \times 0 = 0\): zero property of multiplication (\(a \times 0 = 0\)).
- 3 The blanks are 1 and 0.
Answer
\(\square = 1\) (identity) and \(\square = 0\) (zero property)
Multiplying by 1 keeps the number the same; multiplying by 0 always gives 0.
