Direct Variation Math Example 3

Follow the full solution, then compare it with the other examples linked below.

Example 3

easy
If \(y = kx\) and \(y = 24\) when \(x = 4\), find \(y\) when \(x = 7\).

Solution

  1. 1
    \(k = 24/4 = 6\).
  2. 2
    \(y = 6 \times 7 = 42\).

Answer

\(y = 42\)
In direct variation y=kxy = kx, find the constant kk first, then use it to calculate yy.
