Example 3

easy
Let U={a,b,c,d,e,f}U = \{a,b,c,d,e,f\} and S={a,c,e}S = \{a,c,e\}. Find Sโ€ฒS'.

Solution

  1. 1
    Remove each element of SS from UU: b,d,fb, d, f remain.
  2. 2
    Therefore Sโ€ฒ={b,d,f}S' = \{b, d, f\}.

Answer

Sโ€ฒ={b,d,f}S' = \{b, d, f\}
The complement is every element of the universal set not contained in the given set.
